Sometimes, it is hard understand why transfers happen in soccer. In 2013, Falcao, one of the best central forwards in the world, signed with the French club Monaco which just was promoted from the second league. He had offers from almost every big club in the world, but decided to join Monaco.
Radamel Falcao Garcia Zarate was born on February 10, 1986, in Santa Marta, Colombia. In his youth, Falcao played in the soccer academy named "Lanceros Fair Play", for which he played as a 13-year-old in the second Colombian League. At the age of fifteen, he joined the youth academy of the Argentine club River Plate.
At the age of 20 he made his debut for River Plate in the Argentine Primera División and scored twice in his first game. In 2005, he suffered a serious knee injury and finally returned, completely recovered, in 2007 after several failed comeback attempts.
In the summer of 2009, Falcao moved to the top Portuguese club FC Porto. In the first four games for his new club, he scored four goals and ended the season with a total of 25 goals. The following season was very successful for him as well. He scored 17 goals in 14 Europa League games and beat Jurgen Klinsmann´s all-time record and helped his team winning the title.
In the Portuguese championship, FC Porto had a superior striking duo with Falcao (16 goals) and Hulk (23 goals) and they easily won the league title. With a 6-2 victory in the cup final against Vitória Guimar&atilede;es and Porto finally won the European triple. Falcao had been selected in this year's election to the European Footballer of the Year and placed 5th.
Although Falcao had extended his contract with Porto until July 2015, Atlético Madrid signed him on August 18, 2011. The striker signed a five-year contract. The transfer fee was about $58 million according to media reports.
He made his debut against Valencia in the Primera División on November 10, 2011, the first day of the 2011/12 season. In his second league game, he scored 3 goals in a 4-0 win over Racing Santander. With a total of 12 goals in 15 games, he successfully defended the top scorer title in the Europa league. In the league, Falcao scored 24 goals.
For the 2013/14 season, Falcao moved to the French first division club AS Monaco. He signed a contract over five years, lasting until June 30, 2018. He should earn $18 million per season. In his first league game on August 10, 2013, Falcao scored his first goal in a 2-0 win over Bordeaux.
